Virginia Francis "Jenny" Thompson, of Horse Cave, departed this life on September 25, 2020 after a long illness. She and her husband, John T. were married December 27, 1946. They owned and operated the Horse Cave Western Auto, where as a team they built, remodeled and roofed 100's of homes in Hart, Barren and Larue counties. For over 50 years, she was a member of the Horse Cave Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the delight of her life. As the grandchildren and great-grandchildren always said, “She is the best cook anywhere”. One of the greatest disappointments after she became ill was not being able to cook when they all came to visit her.
Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Thompson, who passed away on June 9, 1993; her parents, Walter B. Edwards and Annie Carter Edwards, as well as a stepmother, Lorene Isenberg. She was also preceded in death by six siblings, Victor Edwards, Otis Edwards, Rondall Edwards, Hugh Richard Edwards, Odelia Broady and Martha Russell.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Wayne) Davis of Glasgow and Gayla (Gary) Jensen of Franklin, TN; one son, Mike (Vickie) Thompson of Horse Cave. Also, surviving are six grandchildren, Chad (Danielle) Davis, Jill (Daniel) Humphrey, Mandy (Zach) Evans, Spencer (Katie) Jensen, Craig (Julianna) Jensen, and David (Nicole) Thompson. She was blessed by 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Betty Edwards; one brother Bobby Edwards; four sisters-in-law, Lois Edwards, Faye Edwards, Lisa Edwards and Bell Thompson; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for all the heroes at Signature Health Care that took such good care of Mrs. Thompson for the last year-and-a-half, as well as the staff at Caverna Hospital that cared for her in the last days of her life.
