Tommye Cagle

Tommye Williamson Cagle, age 89, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., at the Hart County Health Care Center.  Mrs Cagle was born in Greene County, TN on August 26, 1925.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Otis D. Cagle, Jr., of Horse Cave, one daughter, Jean Anne Doyle and husband, Blake R. Doyle, of Winter Haven, FL, one grandson, Matt Doyle and wife, Katie, and one great-granddaughter, Lilly Doyle, all of  Jupiter, FL, and one brother, Don Williamson & family, Greenville, TN.

We, the family, are so  proud of her and her career.  Mrs. Cagle graduated valedictorian from Chuckey High School in Tennessee.  She loved school and knew she wanted to pursue a career in education.  Mrs. Cagle earned her teaching certificate from East Tennessee State.  She then earned her B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee.  While at the University of Tennessee, she met her future husband, Mr. O.D. Cagle. 

After they married, Mr. Cagle took a job with Moss Tobacco Company that moved the couple to Horse Cave in the early 50's.  Mrs. Cagle then returned to school and earned her Masters Degree and Rank I in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University.  She has taught as a teacher at schools in Greene Co., TN, Kingsport, TN,  Charlotte, TN, and Caverna Independent Schools.  Mrs. Cagle concluded her long career as an educator as Principal of Caverna Elementary School.  She was always an active member of of the Horse Cave United Methodist Church and other community organizations.

She was the daughter of the late Rebert Williamson and Gladys Huffman Williamson.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the Horse Cave Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Russell Janes.  Burial will follow in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery, under the direction of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

I never really got to know Mrs. Cagle, but I have heard a lot of great things about her from her family. I met her a few times at family functions and got the distinct impression that she was a woman of class and refinement.

We love and miss you, Tommye.

My sister is now united with daddy,mother, Jesus,  other Christian family members and friends. I will join them eventually.  Tommye leaves many pleasant memories.  Good bye Tommye for now.
