Roger Irvin, Age 75, of New Albany, IN, passed away on December 6, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family.
Roger was born March 31, 1947, in Glasgow, KY to the late Walter and Margarete Irvin. He was a fun and loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family.
Roger started in the Elevator Industry in 1965 with KM White Elevator Based in Louisville, KY. Roger was drafted into the Army in 1966. He trained in Missiles & Munitions at Redstone Arsenal for the Pershing Ballistic Missile Program then served in Germany from 1966-1968. Upon discharge, Roger returned home to Louisville and returned to KM White making his life career in the elevator Industry in elevator controls design, field technician, entrepreneur/business owner, and consultant. He Co-founded A & B Elevator (1977), Co-owned Abell Elevator 1981-1992, Founded Irvin Elevator (1992-2005). Throughout his career Roger traveled the United States consulting, troubleshooting, and repairing elevator control systems. He also served on the board of directors for the National Associations of Elevators Contractors.
Roger was ordained as a deacon at Cedar Cliff Missionary Baptist Church in 2010 and became a member of The Gideons International. Roger was a cowboy at heart and believed in the helping others and sharing Jesus. He taught "Share Jesus Without Fear" classes to local churches.
Roger enjoyed writing poetry for family and friends. He loved photography and traveling the 49 states, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico, where he opened an elevator manufacturing plant.
Roger retired from the elevator industry in 2006 although he remained a consultant for several years. He and Wanda bought a farm in Hart County, KY where the grandkids spent many fun filled weekends riding Flash the go-cart and eating ice cream for breakfast. Roger loved to cook and was always experimenting with new recipes on the family.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margarete Irvin, and son, Greg Irvin, of Fall Branch, TN. He is survived by his Loving Wife, Wanda McCorkle Irvin of 55 years, his son, Tim and wife Gretchen, of Lanesville, IN, Daughter in law Julie Irvin of Fall Branch, TN, his son, Todd and wife Teru, of Greenville, IN, eight grandchildren Austin and wife Rylee, Kaitlin, Wyatt, Quincey, Nina, Gracy, Zeke and Levi Irvin.
He is also survived by his two brothers Bernie and Berklynn Irvin and 4 nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Cedar Cliff Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Winn Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday at Cedar Cliff from 10 AM until time of service at 12 PM.
