Robert Logsdon DeVore

Robert Logsdon DeVore passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday , November 4, 2013. A resident of Plainfield, Ill., he died of complications from pneumonia at the age of 75.

Mr. DeVore was a country music entertainer known as Bobby Dee, who performed on many popular country music television and radio shows in the 1960s-1980s. He was well-loved on the Grand Ole Opry stage and many live music venues in Nashville,Tenn., California, and his home state of Kentucky. Also a recording artist, he released several records during his career including his popular renditions of Pick Me Up on Your Way Down and They'll Never Take Her Love from Me.

Born in Glasgow, Ky., on August 8, 1938, Mr. DeVore was the youngest of ten children. He left Kentucky farm life behind at a young age to join the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1959. It was during his military service that the inspiration came for his career as a musician. While at Ft. Meade, Md., he entered the base's talent contest, singing country music and playing guitar. He won the local contest and advanced to the national-level Army talent competition, which he also won. Following his discharge, he headed to Nashville, Tenn., where he signed his first recording contract. He performed alongside country music's greatest stars of the era and was know for both his musical talent and on-stage humor. During his career, he also performed in numerous charity benefit shows. When not touring, he made his home in Kentucky until retiring to New Albany, Ind.

Following the death of his wife of 42 years, Jean Hishmeh DeVore, Mr. DeVore moved to Plainfield, Ill., to be near family. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Susie (Logsdon) DeVore and nine siblings.

Mr. DeVore is survived by his daughter BJ DeVore Marshall of Lemont, Ill., her husband James H. Marshall III, and grandchildren James, Julia and Jordan Marshall; sons Bobby DeVore and his wife Teresa of Columbia, Ky., Lonnie DeVore and his wife Connie of Columbia, Ky., and Lionel DeVore and his wife Mary of Glasgow, Ky., along with grandchildren Ashley Overstreet, Shannon Gosnell, Nicole Legg, Nick DeVore, Jonathan DeVore and Kyle DeVore, all Kentucky residents; several great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be offered on Thursday, November 7 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Winn Funeral Home in Horse Cave, Ky.  The funeral will be held at Winn Funeral Home on Friday, November 8 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a gravesite service at Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery with military honors conducted by Ft. Knox.
