John was born on June 15, 1930 in Ramallah, Palestine to parents Fahed and Badia Hishmeh. John was the second of ten children. He came to the United States in 1952. John was a great family man and a loving father and grandfather. He married Aida Totah in 1952 and they had five children, Betty, Raymond, Rema, Mona and Alfred.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Fahed and Badia, step-mother, Hilda, three brothers, George, Mansour and Joe, and two sisters, Jean and Laila.

John was dedicated to his church and community. He enjoyed his family, gardening and fundraising for his church. His family and friends will always remember him as a generous, affectionate, considerate, optimistic, kind, admirable and loyal family man. His life-long passion in the food and hospitality business, and having founded "Sahara Steakhouse" in Cave City in 1972, left behind a legacy of many years of his restaurateur expertise.

A "Tribute to John" is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday, June 18 at 10 a.m. followed by an 11:30 Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church and burial at Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life.

Funeral services under the direction of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave.
I always had the greatest respect for Amoh Hanna. He was such a dignified man that got along with everyone. For the longest time I would see him at every funeral and wedding in Louisville and Lexington. He even supported the Ramallah Clubs in Kentucky in anyway he could. He will be missed. Allah Yirhameh.

Much sympathy, love, and prayers for the entire family. I am indeed blessed to have known such a kind wonderful soul. I will forever smile when I think of him selling the baklava in his little Santa-hat every Christmas season after the Masses. Even in frigid rain and snow! And he could grill the best melt-in-your-mouth steak on the planet!
I know too, that he and my late husband, John, have surely greeted each other by now in Heaven. We shall ALL be together again someday. May that blessed assurance comfort everyone. Dinah

John will always hold a very special place in our hearts. He was a very good man and he and Aida were the best of neighbors. The wooden crucifix John and Aida brought back from the Holy Land for us hangs proudly on our home. It will serve as an on-going remembrance of this awesome man. Our deepest condolences to Aida, their children, and the rest of the Hishmeh family.
