Edwin Charles Strohecker PhD age 91 of Louisville and formerly of Park, KY passed away Saturday May 10, 2014 at his home at Treyton Oak Towers . He was a native of Allentown, PA and held a B.S. from Kutztown,PA State University, an M. A. from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and a PhD from the University of Michigan. He was a Lutheran by faith. Ed was active in local, regional and national professional services in the field of library media, he held positions at East Texas State University, University of Michigan, Kent State University, New Orleans University where he assisted in the development of the first library colleciton, Spalding University as Chairman of Library Services and Murray State University as Dean of Libraries and Chairman of Library Information. He served on committees in the American Library Association, Southeastern Library Association and as President of the Kentucky Library Association, as well as the Glasgow-Barren County Retired Teacher's Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Estella Meitzler and Clayton Strohecker, his son, Edwin Charles, Jr. as well as a sister, Ruth Bishop and a brother, James Strohecker.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Nunn Strohecker of Louisville, a brother, Carl of Shillington, PA, a sister, Marion Haas of Allentown, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday May 15, 2014 at the Cosby Cemetery near his son with burial to follow. Full Military Honors will be conducted graveside by DAV Chapter #20 of Glasgow. Arrangements under direction of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave.
Expressions of Sympathy may be made in Ed's memory in the form of contributions to the American Heart Association or the Charity of Choice.
