I did not have the pleasure to have know David as long as others, but the short time I did know him as a fellow NSPS Governor, was rewarding and inspirational.  I will always remember David best for his substantial donation to the NSPS Foundation as the Bonnie Atwell Fund.

On behalf of all 16,000+ members of the National Society of Professional Surveyors, please accept our sincere condolences to the surviving family and admiration to David.  He will be missed and honored by all.

We have known Bonnie and Dave for many years.  We have had them visit our home in Marianna, Florida.  Professionally he helped us with some engineering projects.  David was the NSPS governor for Area 4 for many years and helped us prepare numerous projects on the National level.  He always handled our meetings in a professional manner.  we will miss him on the professional side and as a true friend.  He will always be in our heart.

So sorry to hear of David's death.  David and my husband (Jim died on October 8, 2015) became friends through NSPS and the surveying profession.  We shared many wonderful times together and enjoyed David (and Bonnie's) friendship.  My prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.  Sue

From both a personal perspective, and on behalf of his many friends in the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS), I express our heartbreak upon learning of David's passing. He was a wonderful friend and mentor to me, and countless others, through his service to NSPS and the  community of professional surveyors nationwide. Always influential in his soft-spoken manner, and ever effective in spurring us on to do the right thing.
The example he set for all of us through his unwavering faith will continue to guide our thoughts and actions, though we will sorely miss our dear friend, and his brilliant smile.
