Maxie Carroll Martin, age 82, passed peacefully into his eternal rest while surrounded by his loving family at his longtime home in Horse Cave, Ky. Carroll was a fixture of the Horse Cave and surrounding communities for the majority of his life. His amiable personality enabled him to often start a friendly conversation or share a laugh with most everyone he met.
Carroll was a United States Army Veteran, serving from June, 1961-June, 1964. He earned the rank of Sergeant as a tank operator while stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Carroll reached the level of Master Mason during his 53-year membership at the Hiseville Masonic Lodge #320. After his stint in the army, Carroll operated a small family farm in the Horse Cave area for many years, he was a maintenance technician for 30 years at the now closed Tyson-SKF factory in Glasgow. Carroll continued farming for several years after his retirement from Tyson-SKF and he busied himself throughout his later years by transporting livestock for members of the local Amish community.
Carroll was the son of the late Earl and Kate martin, of Horse Cave; he is preceded in death by his wife, Jessal Mae Minor-Martin; his son, Timothy "Timmy" Carroll Martin; three siblings, Bobby Martin, Tommy Martin, and Mary Ann Sproull.
He is survived by four daughters, Teresa Lindsey (Tim), daughter-in-law, Cherry Martin; Cindy Isenberg (Wesley), Jennifer "J.J." Robbins (David), and Jaime Wilkerson; nine grandchildren, Josh Lindsey (Jessica), Jake Lindsey (Aleasha), Aaron Caswell (Erica), Kolten Isenberg, Briley Robbins, Dawson Robbins, Jaylen Wilkerson, and Eli Wilkerson, Kori Renick; four great-grandchildren, Case Lindsey, Caity Mae Lindsey, Baylee Lindsey, and Jaxon Caswell; two brothers, Tony Martin (Brenda) and Dean Martin (Martha).
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Winn Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Military Honors will be provived by DAV Chapter 20 out of Glasgow, Ky. Visitation will be held at Winn Funeral Home on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 10 AM-8PM, with a Masonic service at 7PM provided by the Hiseville Masonic Lodge #320. Visitation will resume at 9 AM on Friday until the time of service.
